Lorna Hessels was born and raised in Vancouver. As the daughter of teachers (her father, a UBC professor, her mom, an elementary school teacher), Lorna chose, at an early age, to pursue the career of teaching. She taught primary grades for five years at St. Michael’s, Burnaby, coached track and field, has spent the last sixteen years homeschooling her own six children (now ages 6 to 21), and is a Contact Teacher with ASCEND. Over the years, Lorna has accumulated a range of personal lessons; from learning the techniques of motivating a classroom of 32 young children, to finding ways to encourage her handicapped son to persevere, to the challenges of motivating her teenagers. Lorna’s love of her faith, love of teaching and recognition of her own life lessons learned, motivate her to strive to be the best homeschooling parent she can be, and reach out to others to help them do the same.
Lorna will be bringing us 1 workshop:
Motivation… the gasoline in the engine
Motivation…Gasoline in the engine of the homeschooling vehicle. Without motivation, we will not reach our goals. How can we motivate children (especially teenagers) to keep the engine running on up-hills and bumpy roads? …But the wrong kind of gas can ruin an engine. How can we guide our children towards healthy motivation, to be the best people, the best Christians they can be? We will share ideas, to achieve great mileage on our homeschooling journey.
