Jake has been a high school teacher in a Christian School for many years. The underlying goal of his many student missions trips was to help young people develop roots for their faith. The fact that so many leave the faith after leaving the protective environment of our homes, youth groups, and Christian Schools consumed his reading and journaling for many years. The result has been his first book that seeks to provide answers to this pandemic of faltering faiths. The book is a grand appeal to rethink “religion”, this most neglected and much maligned Big Idea concept that is nevertheless at the core of our broken humanity. The book presents the Christian faith in the context of this universal and seemingly never ending search for truth.
Jake will be bringing us 2 workshops:
Preparing Wandering Hearts for Apologetics
Our apologetics seem to us to be so powerful. We are convinced that God has literally done everything he could to help us believe (given the nature of faith and relationship goal of love). Why can’t our children and our friends see it! What pre-apologetics facts / universal truths about our humanity need to be embraced so as to create a readiness to engage with apologetics?
Processing Life’s Foundational Assumptions
Our arguments are as convincing to us as an Atheist’s arguments are to him / her. How do we validate these foundational faith assumptions and arguments? How do we process the circular reasoning that lies at the base of all our deeply rooted convictions? The workshop will present several simple strategies for those who are struggling to find stability in faith issues. Students can be helped to find a stronger faith with these understandings. This is so important because our students have been exposed to our culture and its foundational assumptions and arguments just as much as they have been exposed to Christian foundational convictions
